Malaysia Airlines today announced that it will be launching a new route to Surabaya, connecting Kuala Lumpur and the capital of the province of East Java.

Operations to the new destination are set to begin in October 2017 with the inaugural flight starting on 29 October 2017.

The four times weekly service to and from Surabaya will be operated by the airline’s B738-800 aircraft with a capacity of 160 seats. The aircraft is configured with 16 Business Class and 144 Economy Class seats.

Malaysia Airlines’ Chief Executive Officer, Peter Bellew, said:

“We are excited to resume direct flights to Surabaya to serve the city’s growing tourist demands. As the second largest city of Indonesia Surabaya, also known as the ‘City of Heroes’, is rich with cultural and historical sites. This route expansion will provide superior connectivity with direct flights operating four times weekly to and from Kuala Lumpur to the second busiest airport in Indonesia.

Malaysia Airlines currently flies to three Indonesian routes from Kuala Lumpur. With Surabaya added into our network, customers will be able to explore the tourist attractions in both eastern Java and Malaysia from October, this year.”
