Starting today, Austrian Airlines will offer flight service to another new long-haul destination in Asia.
On Tuesday of each week non-stop flights on a Boeing 767 will be offered from Vienna to Sri Lanka. In addition to the Maldives and Mauritius, Colombo represents the third route to the Indian Ocean served by Austria’s national carrier, which is continuing its focus on long-haul tourist destinations.
“We are the only European airline in the German-speaking region of Europe which flies directly to Colombo. For this reason, we also hope to attract passengers from Germany and Switzerland”, explains Andreas Otto, Chief Commercial Officer of Austrian Airlines.
In the upcoming winter flight schedule, Austrian Airlines is flying to six destinations in Asia, namely Colombo, Bangkok, Maldives, Peking, Tokyo and also Mauritius as of October 29, 2015. Colombo itself is mainly interesting for tourists and will only be included in the winter flight schedule. Flight time there is about 9 hours 10 minutes.
