Etihad Regional announces new route Lugano – Sion

Etihad Regional, operated by Darwin Airline, today confirmed that it will be offering weekly Sunday flights to Sion from Lugano for the whole summer 2016.

The flights, operated weekly from May 8th to September 18th, will connect two scenic Swiss locations with a 35 minute flight and serve summer mountain sports fans.

Sion, the capital of the Swiss Canton Valais, is known for its heritage sites of national significance, as well as its unique mountain landscape. Sion also offers convenient day trips to Zermatt, Montreux, Crans-Montana and Aosta, in Italy.

The flights are operated every Sunday, departing from Lugano at 12:00pm with flight number F7 28, and the return flights depart from Sion at 6:30pm with flight number F7 29. All rotations will be operated with the airline’s 50-seater Saab2000 turbo propeller aircraft.

Etihad Regional currently serves 11 destinations across Switzerland, Italy, Spain and France. Sion represents the twelfth destination in the Swiss regional’s airline network. Darwin Airline has in the past offered charter services to and from Sion for important Tour Operators; starting from May 2016, Etihad Regional has signed a partnership with Bouchard Travel to offer charter services from Sion to Palma de Mallorca till September 2016.

Maurizio Merlo, Etihad Regional’s Chief Executive Officer, said:

“We are delighted to operate the Lugano-Sion flight for summer 2016, alongside our other exciting destinations from Lugano, such as Geneva, Olbia and Cagliari. This is a good opportunity to utilise our fleet and crew’s experience to serve these secondary regional airports.”
