Flights to and from Tangier, as well as Casablanca and Marrakesh, set to increase substantially.
TAP announced that, from June, it will be expanding its operations between Lisbon and Tangier, Morocco from three flights a week to daily flights. New ATR72 aircraft will be used on the route, as the ATR72 offers more capacity than the aircraft currently used. These changes represent a 187% increase in the seats offered between the two cities during the summer.
TAP had already announced an 80% increase in its offer to and from Morocco at a press conference held in Casablanca last Monday. This announcement included only the increase in flights planned for Casablanca (from daily to twice daily flights) and Marrakesh (from four flights a week to daily flights). With the announcement of increased service to Tangier, which will also be operated with new ATR72 planes flying the TAP Express colours, combined with the added flights to Casablanca and Marrakesh announced earlier, TAP is nearly doubling its operations between Portugal and Morocco, increasing the total number of seats offered by 96%.
By increasing the number of flights, TAP has also been able to optimise schedules, offering the Moroccan market quick connections from Lisbon to TAP’s entire network of destinations, allowing the airline to carve out a very competitive position in Morocco. The two daily flights between Lisbon and Casablanca depart from Lisbon at 16:25 and 22:00, arriving at their destination at 18:15 and 22:50, respectively. From Casablanca, the morning flight leaves at 5:35 and arrives in Lisbon at 7:20. The later flight leaves Casablanca at 18:55 and arrives in the Portuguese capital at 20:40.
The daily Lisbon-Marrakesh flight leaves at 11:45 and lands in the “red city” at 13:40, from where it takes off for the return flight at 14:20, landing in Portela at 16:15. The daily flight to Tangier will depart Lisbon at 21:45 and arrive at 23:15 and, in the Tangier-Lisbon direction, departure will be at 5:40, with arrival in Lisbon at 7:05.
