Allegiant’s seasonal nonstop flights to Fort Lauderdale take off from Grand Rapids today, marking the return of the highly anticipated service for western Michigan travelers.
“We are excited for Michigan travelers to enjoy these nonstop, low-cost flights to Fort Lauderdale, giving the community an ultra-low-cost opportunity to visit this iconic beach destination,” said Jude Bricker, Allegiant senior vice president of planning. “We are pleased to continue increasing our service to Fort Lauderdale from communities around the country, bringing more visitors and economic growth to the area.”
The seasonal flights will operate twice weekly from December 2015 through April 2016 and expand on the service Allegiant currently operates to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). Allegiant began service to Fort Lauderdale in Nov. 2007 and currently operates 16 routes to the popular beach destination. The new flights will bring more than 7,000 additional visitors each year to Fort Lauderdale and generate an estimated $5.7 million in total visitor spending annually. Flight days, times and the lowest fares can be found only at Allegiant.com.
“We are very excited about Allegiant’s return to serving Broward County’s Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) from Grand Rapids, Michigan,” said Kent George, Director of Aviation. “The airport is investing more than $2 billion in improvements to attract new service like Allegiant from Grand Rapids. We are proud to partner with Allegiant and appreciate their commitment to FLL and Greater Fort Lauderdale.” The return of direct air service between Grand Rapids and Fort Lauderdale signifies the growth of both cities, which is exciting. Allegiant’s network of direct access from important cities in the East and Midwest to Fort Lauderdale gives us the opportunity to introduce and welcome more visitors to experience our beautiful beaches, adventurous Everglades and superior dining and nightlife offerings.”
