National Airlines passengers took to the skies today when the airline celebrated its inaugural passenger flight from Orlando Sanford International Airport to San Juan, Puerto Rico’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport.

The flight marked the launch of National Airlines’ convenient nonstop service to destinations in North America and the Caribbean. In addition to San Juan, the airline will begin nonstop flights to Windsor, Ontario, December 17. Flights to St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, will be added next year.

“Orlando is the most visited place in the U.S. and it’s exciting for us to enable passengers in underserved markets, such as San Juan, with a more convenient means to visit its world-famous theme parks, beaches and cruise ports,” said National Airlines President and Chief Operating Officer Edward Davidson.

“Our partnership with the Orlando Sanford International Airport allows us to offer exceptional customer-focused service with the added value of relatively shorter lines and smaller crowds. We pride ourselves on being a full-service airline, delivering a world-class travel experience at a competitive price.”

The inaugural flight to San Juan was celebrated by National Airlines’ team members and its passengers, who received a special certificate commemorating their flight. Along with Davidson, Orlando Sanford International Airport President and CEO Diane Crews was present to officiate airport ceremonies. As it departed the gate, the plane’s first commercial passengers and crew were honored with a traditional water arch salute.

According to Orlando Sanford International Airport President and CEO Diane Crews, the airport has long awaited the return of flights to San Juan, stating: “There is no doubt that these flights will be among our most popular destinations.”
