Copenhagen Airport appoints new Director of Airline Sales & Route Development

Morten Mortensen, 45, formerly of A.P. Møller-Mærsk and 3M, has been appointed as Copenhagen Airport’s new director of airline sales and route development.

The future director of airline sales and route development at Copenhagen Airport is an experienced executive with substantial international transport and infrastructure knowledge. Morten Mortensen, aged 45, has had previous positions with companies including Maersk Procurement, Mærsk Line and APM Terminals in Denmark, the Netherlands and Singapore.

“In addition to having significant work experience abroad and an international outlook from positions in Singapore, the Netherlands and other places, Morten is a sharp strategist and strong team leader with experience in infrastructure on land, at sea – and now in the air,” said Chief Commercial Officer Peter Krogsgaard of Copenhagen Airport.

For the past decade, Copenhagen Airport has been committed to expanding the number of non-stop routes to destinations around the world, and CPH today boasts almost 160 non-stop routes from Copenhagen – 34 of them intercontinental routes to mainly Asia and North America.

The members of CPH’s team of route developers travel the world to sell Denmark and Copenhagen Airport to airlines and travel agencies.

“Each and every new route generates growth and new jobs in Copenhagen and the rest of Denmark. But European competition for air routes is very intense, and we have to operate an efficient and attractive airport and be extremely sharp in presenting viable, carefully prepared business cases to incentivise airlines to launch a route from Copenhagen rather than one of the many competing airports around Europe,” explained Peter Krogsgaard.

CPH once again won the world championship in route development for airports with 20-50 million passengers at the annual international World Routes conference in September 2015. Morten Mortensen, future leader of the route development team, is quite certain what one of his most important tasks will be:

“We must build on the success that the route development team and the rest of Copenhagen Airport have demonstrated in attracting air routes and growth to Denmark. With CPH’s plan to grow from 25 to 40 million passengers, we have our work cut out, and I have to say I am very much looking forward to getting started,” said Morten Mortensen.

Morten Mortensen was born in Kolding, Denmark. With a Business Administration and Marketing (HD-A) degree from Aarhus Business College and Aarhus School of Business, his career started in Copenhagen. He now resides in Dragør with his wife and two sons, aged 6 and 10. Morten takes up the position as director of airline sales and route development at Copenhagen Airport on 1 March.
