Avinor’s Stavanger Airport has announced an enhancement to its route network with new airline partner, airBaltic.

Set to commence on 2 May 2017, Latvia’s flag carrier will be operating a thrice-weekly service to Riga, using its fleet of 76-seat Bombardier’s Q400s NextGen aircraft.

“I’m really happy to confirm airBaltic will now be serving Stavanger Airport, adding another important link to Latvia’s capital from Norway. Avinor’s support of new airlines and new routes is continuing to prove successful and promises extensive further growth from all our airports,” comments Jasper Spruit, VP Traffic Development, Avinor.

Wolfgang Reuss, SVP Network Management of airBaltic: “We are proud to resume this service from Riga, and believe that our passengers will enjoy the direct flight to Stavanger as well as having better connectivity to the Baltic region and the rest of our network.”

Adding its second route to Norway – the carrier already flies Oslo 19 times weekly – the new service will see airBaltic resume its connection to country’s third busiest airport. Currently Norway’s second largest airline serving the Latvian market (in terms of weekly capacity), airBaltic faces no direct competition on the airport pair, and will add over 10,000 seats to Stavanger’s route network.

“If the route is successful over the summer, we are hopeful that it will continue to operate during the winter season,” states Spruit.

Stavanger joins Avinor’s Oslo, Trondheim and Bergen in offering a direct link to Latvia’s largest city, giving Norwegian and Latvian travellers optimal choice.
