Wasaya Airways Announces New Service to Winnipeg

Effective May 1st, 2017, Wasaya Airways will offer non-stop flights to Winnipeg, Manitoba from Sioux Lookout, Ontario with through service from Thunder Bay. 

“We heard loud and clear, our guests and corporate accounts want a Winnipeg connection. After researching the market, we realized there is a market opportunity here” said Michael Rodyniuk, President and Chief Executive Officer of Wasaya. “With the introduction of our flights to Winnipeg from Sioux Lookout, Wasaya will connect convenient, cost effective air transportation to all the communities we serve.”

Flights to Winnipeg will operate Monday through Friday, connecting all communities Wasaya serves through Sioux Lookout. Flights will be operated with Beechcraft 1900D twin-turbine powered aircraft, featuring state of the art “stand up” comfort cabins, executive shuttle seating, with speed and fuel efficiency.

Celebrating its 27th year in operation, Wasaya Airways is 100% First Nations owned by 12 First Nations: Bearskin Lake; Fort Severn; Kasabonika Lake; Keewaywin; Kingfisher Lake; Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug; Muskrat Dam; Nibinamik; Pikangikum; Sandy Lake; Wapekeka; and Wunnumin Lake.

Wasaya serves 25 destinations in Northwestern Ontario with 60 daily flights and employs 350+ employees, of which over one third are First Nation.
