Air Line Pilots Association to Trump Administration: America First

Capt. Tim Canoll, president of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), issued the following statement regarding President Trump’s aviation industry meeting.

“U.S. airline pilots are proud to be part of a strong American industry that contributes billions of dollars to the nation’s economy and provides millions of aviation manufacturing and airline jobs.

“We welcome President Trump’s focus on strengthening the nation’s transportation infrastructure to make the United States even more competitive on the world stage. U.S. airlines’ competitiveness is key to the future of our industry and enforcing U.S. trade deals is key to securing jobs for U.S. workers.

“U.S. airline pilots know that putting ‘America First’ is the sound course for the future of American aviation. The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l reiterates our call for the U.S. government to require foreign airlines to compete on a level playing field with U.S. airlines and to create good jobs here in the United States. Overturning Norwegian Air International’s U.S. foreign air carrier permit and acting to stop Middle Eastern countries from unfairly subsidizing their airlines would send a strong signal to U.S. aviation workers that this Administration is committed to putting America first.”
