Jetstar Asia and L3 Commercial Training Solutions (L3 CTS) announced the launch of a new Jetstar Asia Airways Cadet Pilot Training Programme to develop high caliber students into professional pilots for the airline.
The programme will support the resourcing demands for the Singapore-based low fares airline and demonstrates its commitment to develop a new generation of qualified pilots as it continues to grow its network in the region.
At the sidelines of the Singapore Airshow 2018, Mr Chan Choy Kee, Jetstar Asia’s Head of Flying Operations said, “Since 2011, Jetstar Asia has been training and developing a generation of commercial pilots to operate an Airbus A320 aircraft. Many of them have not only graduated but have received command upgrades as well.”
“With the new Jetstar Asia Airways Pilot training Programme with L3 CTS, we will be able to provide, the opportunity to self-fund and pursue a commercial career in flying for up to 12 pilots,” said Mr Chan.
The certified flight instructors in Jetstar Asia will also now provide the ‘type-rating training’ for these new pilots in a training facility in Singapore.
“With the formalization of the agreement with L3 CTS, we will be continually developing and training highly skilled pilots to augment our in-house talent pool,” said Mr Chan.
Successful applicants will undertake a six-month ground school training in Singapore with Revion Ground School before commencing flight training in New Zealand.
The first course is planned to start in mid-2018 and move to New Zealand in late 2018. Cadets will undertake their flight training on L3 CTS’ latest-generation aircraft and simulators at the purpose-built Training Centre in Hamilton, New Zealand.
Upon successful completion, they will then proceed on to A320 type-rating with Jetstar Asia. Type rating certification is the additional training required for commercial pilots to fly a certain aircraft type, over and above the initial license.
