Elvis Presley’s Lockheed Jetstar Private Jet Sold at an Auction

After sitting for more than 35 years on a runway in Roswell, New Mexico, Elvis Presley’s 1962 Lockheed Jetstar private jet will have a new opportunity.

The private jet that Elvis owned together with his father, Vernon Presley, sold for $430,000 at a California auction on Saturday.

The aircraft has no engines and an unrestored cockpit and was customized for the singer, including a red carpet and red velvet seats and gold-tone hardware.

It is the only one of the three planes belonging to The King which is still privately owned, while the other two are owned by the Graceland estate in Memphis, Tennessee.

The Lockheed JetStar is a business jet produced from the early 1960s to the 1970s. The JetStar was the first dedicated business jet to enter service. It was also one of the largest aircraft in the class for many years, seating ten plus two crew. It is distinguishable from other small jets by its four engines, mounted on the rear of the fuselage, and the ‘slipper’-style fuel tanks fixed to the wings.
