Aer Lingus Regional, operated by Stobart Air, experienced its best month on record in July since the franchise began in March 2010.

The record passenger numbers beats the previous record set only last month as passenger numbers published today show.

The airline carried 141,737 passengers in July, a 22% increase on the same month in 2013. This marks the 13th consecutive month of passenger growth as all of the airline’s Irish bases reported growth.

Over 762,000 passengers have been flown on the Aer Lingus Regional network since the beginning of the calendar year, an increase of 150,000 (up 25%) passengers compared to the same period in 2013.

Passenger traffic at Dublin Airport experienced another record month of growth with passenger numbers up 25% in July compared to the same month last year. In Cork passenger numbers were up for the 4th consecutive month by being up 14%, while Shannon Airport passenger figures were up 50%.

Passenger numbers were also up on the airline’s Dublin – Kerry service by 3%, its 5th consecutive month of growth. Aer Lingus Regional’s services to Bristol are up 55% on last year while the Dublin to London Southend continues to show growth with a 6% increase. There was a record month on its Dublin – Newcastle route and first time with more than 7,000 passengers in flown in a single month since the route was launched in October 2013.

There was another strong month for traffic to and from Scotland, up 17% in July compared to the same month last year, coinciding with the recent Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Aer Lingus Regional recently deployed larger aircraft on its Dublin Glasgow service. Passenger numbers on its Manchester and Blackpool services were up 21%, helped by the Open Championship golf tournament held in Hoylake.

There was a 35% increase in connecting traffic from the UK regions to the United States and Canada with Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bristol and Birmingham routes all reported strong year-on-year increases.

Commenting on the month’s successes, Simon Fagan, Chief Commercial Officer, Stobart Air, said:

“I am delighted that Aer Lingus Regional has had a second consecutive month of record breaking passenger numbers, and a 13th consecutive month of growth. We have broken the 140,000 mark in passenger numbers for the first time.

“Since the start of the year, the airline has flown 762,000 passengers, 150,000 more than this time last year. Passengers are responding to our strong route network, our investment in new aircraft, and the connectivity we offer with mainline Aer Lingus services.

“Sporting events also played a part in boosting our passenger numbers in July. We saw a 21% growth in passenger numbers to Manchester due to the Open Championship while there was a 34% increase on Glasgow Airport traffic due to the Commonwealth Games and introduction of brand new larger aircraft on that service”, Mr Fagan said.

Stobart Air is the franchise flying partner to leading Irish carrier Aer Lingus and more recently, Flybe, operating services from London’s newest gateway, London Southend Airport to six key European destinations.
