Czech Airlines to discontinue service to Almaty

Czech Airlines’ regular scheduled service between Almaty and Prague will continue to be operated as a seasonal route.

The last flight of the summer schedule will leave Almaty on 7 October 2015.

During the upcoming 2015/2016 winter season, the route will not be operated, as last winter. However, Czech Airlines plans to offer individual flights between Almaty and Prague prior to and after the traditional Christmas and New Year’s festivities.

The carrier will renew regular operation on the Almaty – Prague route in the 2016 summer season.

Czech Airlines’ decision to keep the existing model of seasonal operation of the Almaty – Prague route is primarily based on the weakening of the Kazakhstani Tenge against world currencies and on the current state of Kazakhstani economics. Both factors account for a reduction in the purchasing power of the local population, resulting in a decreased demand for travel to the Czech Republic during the winter season.

Czech Airlines has been carefully monitoring and analysing the situation in the Kazakhstani market and has consulted with the most important local tour operators when making its decision. Keeping the original seasonal operational model is the result of mutual agreement.

“Year-round operation of the Almaty – Prague route would not be economically feasible under the current situation of the Kazakhstani market,” said Ján Tóth, Czech Airlines Director for Commerce, Alliances and Marketing.

Regardless of the decision to keep the seasonal model of operation of the route, Czech Airlines plans to operate five return flights from Almaty to Prague during the traditional Christmas and New Year’s festivities at the turn of December and January.

Departures from Almaty have been scheduled for the Tuesdays 16, 23 and 30 December 2015 and 6 and 13 January 2016, at 10:50 a.m., the regular departure time of Czech Airlines’ flights, arriving in Prague at 12:30 p.m. Return flights to Almaty will leave Václav Havel Airport Prague on 15, 22 and 29 December 2015 and 5 and 12 January 2016, at 10 p.m.
