New air traffic control tower at Heydar Aliyev International Airport

Opening ceremony of the second, a modern type of air traffic control tower was held at Heydar Aliyev International Airport on December 9, 2015.

The new Air Traffic Control Tower with radar system  is unique in Europe and meets all modern requirements in air traffic control. The Air Traffic Control Tower will ensure more efficient air traffic control of approaching, landing and maneuvering at Heydar Aliyev International Airport aircrafts.

The secondary RSM970S Mode S type radar implemented in  new  Air Traffic Control Tower was supplied by Thales.

Ambassador of France to Azerbaijan, Ms. Aurelia Bouchez, Vice-President of Thales Eurasia Roger Daix and First Vice-President of “Azerbaijan Airlines” CJSC (AZAL) Sabir Ilyasov attended the opening ceremony of new  air traffic control tower.

According to Sabir Ilyasov, thanks to President Ilham Aliyev’s care and attention to the development of Azerbaijani aviation AZAL has implemented many successful projects to ensure flight safety in the airspace of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

“Thanks to its well developed air navigation infrastructure Azerbaijan is one of the world leaders in introducing of new technologies in air navigation that include the latest scientific achievements. This ensures a high level of flight safety in accordance with the latest requirements of the ICAO and Eurocontrol”, Sabir Ilyasov said.

Azerbaijan’s air navigation system attracts the attention of the largest air carriers. Today “Azeraeronavigation” Air Traffic Department provides air navigation services to more than 80,000 transit over flights and about 40,000 takeoffs and landings per year.
