Russian Helicopters will present the first prototype of the Mi-8MTV-5 helicopter equipped with the GSOS systems, which was built by Kazan Helicopters.
Gyro-stabilized opto-electronic systems (GSOS) are designed for day and night viewing of surroundings, search, detection and recognition of objects and obstacles based on their thermal reading, measuring range to an object for the purpose of take-off, flying and landing, and many other special tasks. GSOS represents a universal module which, depending on customer requests, can be set up with various equipment. This equipment often requires steric stabilization, particularly with a laser range finder.
Helicopters equipped with the GSOS system can perform environmental monitoring, engage in policing, search and rescue missions, as well as other tasks. Four-channel systems are located in the base of the gyro-stabilized platform for the detection and recognition of objects in a wide viewing angle or under excessive vibration at any time of day.
Mi-8MTV-5 is a military transport helicopter that belongs to the Mi-8/17 family and is available to various law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation. This type of helicopter is designed to transport troops and cargo and can carry up to 4,000 kg inside the body or on an external sling. This helicopter is also used to perform combat missions using various weapons, as well as for search and rescue, sanitation missions and special operations.
