Flights to Alicante on mainland Spain will be launched for summer 2020 from Teesside International Airport as another new route is offered by Flybe franchise partner Eastern Airways from the northeast airport.
This latest announcement for Teesside Airport serving Spain’s Costa Blanca follows the airline’s recent fleet expansion plans introducing larger Embraer e-jets, along with the new network of Teesside routes to Cardiff, Belfast City, Dublin, Southampton, London City, seasonal Isle of Man service complementing its existing Aberdeen route.
The new twice-weekly flights to Alicante will commence on Friday 17 July and will operate until 11 September as an initial entry into the leisure market, with departure times from Teesside at 8 am and Alicante at 11.50 am local time.
Roger Hage, Eastern Airways’ General Manager Commercial & Operations, said:
“This is fantastic news that we are in a position to offer an initial summer 2020 program of sun flights to Alicante from Teesside. This is all part of our growing partnership with Teesside with major plans for 2021, aside from the six domestic and Irish new routes we’ve already announced enhancing regional connectivity.”
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said:
“I’m over the moon to be able to announce this new Alicante service ahead of the first anniversary of buying the airport. From this summer, people in Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool will be able to fly from their local airport to the Spanish City and get to the seaside from Teesside quickly and easily.
“I would like to thank Eastern Airways, a long-standing partner of the airport, who have shown time and time again that they share our ambitions to make it a success. In the past year, we’ve announced flights that are brilliant for business, as well as popular locations for holidaymakers, and we’re continuing to add to these routes.”
Cardiff flights from Teesside commenced on 10 February. Belfast City, Dublin and Southampton start on 9 March, followed by London City on 27 April and the seasonal Isle of Man flights from 30 May.
Yorkshire and Humber based Eastern Airways was formed in 1997. As well as operating scheduled flights, the airline also specializes in providing customer-focused charter services for the energy industry, corporate and sports contracts and ad-hoc charters.
