Nigeria’s largest domestic carrier, Arik Air, is set to resume normal operations after the airline shut its operations yesterday.
Arik Air blamed the temporary disruption on its inability to secure insurance renewal.
The airline said in a statement:
“Members of the public and our esteemed customers are advised to discountenance the disparaging allegations, unsubstantiated and uninformed claims about the airline’s inability to meet its financial obligations to aviation fuel marketers and a purported withdrawal of insurance services to Arik Air by its insurers”.
“While the current scarcity of aviation fuel has impacted on the operations of airlines in the country, Arik Air is in good standing with its fuel suppliers and has been meeting its obligations to them and to our insurers. With the regularization of the required documents relating to the renewal of the insurance, Arik Air will be resuming its normal flying schedule from September 14, 2016″.
This situation left many passengers across the airline’s network stranded. Also affected were the airline’s long-haul services to London Heathrow and New York JFK
Arik Air is the third Nigerian airline, together with AeroContractors and FirstNation Airways to temporarily ground operations in the last month.
Update 1:
Arik Air announced that full scale operations have resumed and all scheduled flights have been operating as usual.
