Aurigny Announces New Services to Southampton and Jersey

Aurigny announced the addition of two new routes which will offer customers a twice-daily return service to Jersey from Guernsey and twice-daily return service to Southampton from Guernsey, both commencing in May 2019.

The return of Aurigny to Jersey and the additional services to Southampton will offer customers greater choice, reliability and an additional inter-island business connection.

These services have been established as part of the expansion of Aurigny’s route portfolio and will be run using one of the existing leased ATR aircraft, so there will be no adverse impact on any other services. The development of these two new routes will help Aurigny in meeting the objective set for it by the States to reach a breakeven position.

Mark Darby, Aurigny’s Chief Executive Officer, said:

“We are delighted to be returning to Jersey and offering a further service from Guernsey to Southampton. People often ask me when we will return to our sister island, given Aurigny’s heritage on the route. We will be offering weekday morning and evening flights on both new routes, giving customers the choice of a day return to either destination and convenient times for business, medical and leisure passengers.”

Whilst there has been much in the media recently about other new routes and competition, Aurigny is keen to point out that this latest offering has been worked on for many months and final approvals have only just been forthcoming, hence the announcement.

The new routes create a slot in the middle of the day, and the airline is exploring options of adding a further destination in due course. This is being looked into in consultation with VisitGuernsey and the Committee for Economic Development and will be used to further Aurigny’s ‘economic enablement’ objective.
