Upon agreement with the Rzeszów airport, Czech Airlines has decided to temporarily and for a short period of time discontinue its operations on the Edinburg route during the quietest period of the 2015/2016 winter season.

Czech Airlines will service three pairs of flights between Rzeszów and Edinburg before Christmas and then another three after Christmas and New Year’s Day. Czech Airlines is currently working with the Rzeszów airport on a new operational model for the 2016 summer season. Together with the renewal of the Edinburg connection at the beginning of March 2016, Czech Airlines is planning to launch new direct scheduled connections from Rzeszów to other destinations in Europe.

Czech Airlines’ flights between Rzeszów and Edinburg will be temporarily discontinued from 8 January until 27 February 2016, i.e. during the quietest operational part of the 2015/2016 winter season. However, Czech Airlines will service the route on the originally scheduled dates and times from 15 December 2015 to 5 January 2016, except Saturday, 26 December 2015 to ensure that all passengers will be able to get to their final destinations during and after the Christmas and New Year’s Eve festivities. This means that there will be flights serviced on 15, 19, 22, 29 December 2015 and on 2 and 5 January 2016.

“Unfortunately, a very low demand on the Polish and Scottish markets does not allow us to maintain uninterrupted operations on the Rzeszów – Edinburg route for the entire winter season despite all commercial, marketing and communication support. The low demand has influenced the business results of the route and it is not economically justifiable to operate flights during times when passengers are not interested in using them,” Ján Tóth, Czech Airlines Director for Commerce and Marketing stated, adding: “The pause in operations on the route is only temporary. In no way does it indicate our intention to leave Rzeszów or the Polish market. Quite the contrary. We plan to re-launch the route in March 2016 and, together with our partners from the Rzeszów airport, we are now working on new direct scheduled connections from Rzeszów to several destinations in Europe which we would like to start servicing in the 2016 summer season and to announce very soon.”

Stanisław Nowak, CEO of Rzeszów-Jasionka Int. Airport, said: “The temporary suspension of Rzeszow-Edinburg flights, excluding the Christmas and New Year’s period, is due to business reasons, and we fully support the decision of the carrier. Just a note, the A319 aircraft that operate the route have a capacity of 144 seats and, unfortunately, market interest has dropped significantly during the winter season. That is why we plan to re-launch operations between Rzeszów and the capital of Scotland at the end of February 2016, and will propose a few additional new European destinations available directly from Rzeszów with Czech Airlines. The official announcement will be made soon.”
