Etihad Airways Restructures Aircraft Orders

Etihad Aviation Group announced the successful completion of its fleet negotiations with Airbus and Boeing, discussions it had initiated following a comprehensive strategic review.

The agreement will see Etihad take delivery of five Airbus A350-1000, all 26 Airbus A321neos and six Boeing 777-9 aircraft over the coming years. The balance of the remaining orders will be defined at a later time through rescheduling, restructuring or reduction.

Etihad Airways will also continue to take delivery of Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

This will enable the airline to further progress its transformation and adjust to its new operating model. Etihad Aviation Group and each of the manufacturers agreed not to disclose details of the agreements and expressed their mutual appreciation for the constructive discussions and their satisfactory outcome.

“By restructuring a large portion of its previous orders, Etihad can now concentrate on the phased introduction of new aircraft types, enabling an efficient rationalization of its fleet, and building a network that connects Abu Dhabi to the world,” the airline said in a statement.

Etihad Airways already operates one of the most technologically advanced fleets in the world and the delivery of these latest-generation aircraft will further strengthen this position.
