Fly Blue Crane is launching a new service from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg to Mthatha in the Eastern Cape from Wednesday October 5, 2016.
The airline’s Chief Commercial Officer, Theunis Potgieter, said the new service would offer two return flights a day from Monday to Friday, and one return flight on Saturdays and Sundays.
“Fly Blue Crane is responding to what customers travelling between Johannesburg and Mthatha have always wanted: the enhanced convenience of frequent flights through high on-time performance, commitment to consistent service excellence and highly competitive fares,” Potgieter said.
The airline, which took to the skies from its Johannesburg hub in September 2015, already flies to Kimberley and Bloemfontein, as well as between Kimberley and Cape Town, and between Bloemfontein and Cape Town. It also offers cargo services on all its flights.
The new flights to Mthatha come on top of other plans by Fly Blue Crane to launch services to a number of destinations in Southern Africa.
“All the planned new services are in line with Fly Blue Crane’s regional ambitions that we articulated at the time of our launch last year. Our aim in the coming years is to make air travel an altogether better, convenient and more rewarding experience in the entire Southern Africa sub-region,” Potgieter said.
The airline operates 50-seater Embraer Regional Jet 145 (ERJ) aircraft in a single class configuration.
