Kenya Airways boosts traffic to key destinations

Kenya Airways has boosted the frequency of its flights to Luanda in Angola, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania as it optimizes its operations.

Kenya Airways will now fly 35 times a week to Dar-es-Salaam, up from 28 times that it previously did. It will also fly to Dubai ten times every week, up from the previous seven times; and three times weekly to Luanda, where it had flown twice.

The increased frequencies are part of changes introduced by the airline on its operations that have seen it upgrade aircrafts on selected routes. This will see Kenya Airways deploy its flagship aircraft, the B787 Dreamliner, to fly direct to Johannesburg, Paris, Kinshasa, Dubai, and Guangzhou. The B787 Dreamliner will also operate the Bangkok-Hong Kong-Guangzhou route.

Kenya Airways’ Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mbuvi Ngunze said that the capacity changes are in response to changes in demand on the different routes.

“These changes have also allowed us to deploy the Dreamliner on different routes to give our guests an opportunity to experience its world class features,” Mr. Ngunze added.

As part of its fleet renewal programme, Kenya Airways this year acquired six B787 Dreamliner aircrafts that have been deployed for commercial service on the different routes. The airline, which currently has the youngest fleet in Africa, also received three 777-300ER and a next generation B737-800.

Under these new changes, Kenya Airways has also suspended flights between its Nairobi hub and New Delhi in India.

Mr. Ngunze explained that guests flying on this route have the option of travelling to New Delhi on Kenya Airways’ partner airlines using connections through Mumbai.
