LOT Airlines grounds Boeing 787 fleet

In regard to FAA Airworthness directive related to Boeing 787 aircrafts, LOT Polish Airlines reported that, with immediate effect, has decided to temporarily cease operations with this particular type of aircraft.

LOT Polish Airlines grounded its two Boeing 787 Dreamliners, until all safety recommendations are implemented and the aircraft are fully checked by the technical staff. In the meantime, the polish airline confimed its long-haul operations will not be affected, as most of the flights initially assigned to the Boeing 787s will be operated with the airline’s Boeing 767 aircraft. Only today’s flight to Beijing has been cancelled.

“Following FAA statement we would like to confirm, that LOT will cooperate both with Boeing and FAA to develop a corrective action plan to allow our fleet to resume operations as quickly and safely as possible”, said LOT in a press statement.

Accredited sources within state-controlled LOT Polish Airlines confirmed that the two Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft that it operates are currently grounded as ordered by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), and is considering and preparing for seeking compensation from the aircraft manufacturer for the cost of grounding the aircraft, which is very significant. One of LOT’s Boeing 787 aircraft is in Chicago after its first commercial intercontinental flight yesterday. The other of the two delivered so far is currently parked in Warsaw.
