Qantas launches direct flights to the Whitsundays

Today Qantas begins direct services between Sydney and the Great Barrier Reef Airport broadening travel options for Sydney and international customers heading to The Whitsundays.

Qantas will operate three flights a week on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday during peak season (July and September through to January) and bi-weekly services on Wednesday and Sunday off peak.

It has been almost 10 years since Qantas served the route and provided customers with a premium flight alternative.

Qantas Domestic CEO Lyell Strambi said the airline was delighted to be flying back to the region.

“Our customers told us that they wanted direct access to the Whitsundays on a premium leisure service from Sydney. Today we respond to that demand and complement Jetstar’s existing flights as part of our two-brand strategy,” said Mr Strambi.

“Qantas will be the only domestic airline operating out of the Great Barrier Reef Airport to include the convenience of an inflight meal and checked in baggage for all passengers as part of the fare no matter what time they are flying or which class they are travelling in.”

“Sydney is the gateway to Australia for millions of Qantas passengers every year. These passengers can now enjoy direct access to one of the country’s most iconic holiday destinations.”
