SkyWork adds first Saab 2000

On July 1, a Saab 2000 aircraft operated its first scheduled flight with a SkyWork crew on board.

The Swedish-made airplane begun its service with a flight from Bern to London City via the EuroAirport Basel.

Last Wednesday, the new addition to the fleet, registered as HB-IZB, was flown over to Bern, where the Federal Office of Civil Aviation carried out a technical inspection. The aircraft does not yet have the complete SkyWork livery, which has been put aside for the moment due to time pressure. The aircraft will be given its final SkyWork Airlines paint finish at a later date.

This Saab 2000 arrived in Bern two months behind schedule, which led to some short-term operational disruptions. The impact on capacity meant that some flights had to run twice. Bottlenecks were alleviated by leasing an additional Dornier 328 aircraft on a temporary basis.

Last year Darwin Airlines operated A Saab 2000 on behalf of SkyWork Airlines, from mid-July until the flights had to be discontinued in December due to a crew shortage at Darwin Airlines.

The launch of this 50-seater airplane’s service marks the beginning of a new era with a significant increase in capacity in comparison to the 31-seater Dornier.

The current Dornier fleet, which now consists of three aircraft, will be gradually replaced with bigger aircraft.
