Wizz Air announces new routes to Budapest and Cluj-Napoca from Bucharest

Wizz Air today announced a new route from Bucharest to Budapest and a domestic route from Bucharest to Cluj-Napoca, another of Wizz Air’s five bases in Romania.

Wizz Air will begin the Bucharest to Cluj-Napoca route 22 July with six weekly flights, operating every day except Saturday. The Bucharest to Budapest service begins 19 September with four weekly flights, Monday Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

In October, Wizz Air announced four new routes from Cluj-Napoca to Alicante, Berlin Schoenefeld, Billund and Doncaster Sheffield. Wizz Air now offers service on 109 routes from eight Romanian airports to 16 countries.

Wizz Air carried more than 4.5 million people through Romanian airports in 2015 compared with 3.8 million in 2014. Another highlight from 2015 was the announcement that Iasi will become the 23rd operating base for Wizz Air, and the sixth Romanian base, beginning in July. Wizz Air announced last October that it will add a 5th aircraft at the base in Cluj-Napoca, also coming in July.

Gyorgy Abran, Wizz Air Chief Commercial Officer said:

“We’re excited to be adding new, low-fare service in Romania where our traffic numbers grew 16 percent in 2015. We’ve been working on these routes for some time as part of our continued commitment to Romania, where more and more people continue to respond to our low fares and excellent on-board service.”
