Wizz Air expands in Italy

Wizz Air today announced further enhancements to its low fare route network in Italy.

From 1 November 2014 the airline will start operating 2 weekly flights from Bari to Timisoara, while from 14 March 2015 there will be a twice weekly service from Bari to Cluj-Napoca. Both services will be operated on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Timisoara, one of the largest cities in Romania, is the main cultural, social and economic hub for the Western part of Romania. The city is also a candidate to become the European Capital of Culture in 2021.  Cluj-Napoca is considered the unofficial capital to the historical province of Transylvania and is one of the most important academic, cultural, industrial and business centres in Romania.

With the latest addition to the network, Wizz Air now offers 5 routes to 3 countries from Bari, while operating a total of 63 routes from 14 Italian airports, growing tourism and consumer choice on very low fares and with great customer service.

Wizz Air’s Daniel de Carvalho said: “Today we are thrilled to announce 2 new routes from Bari, to Timisoara and Cluj-Napoca. We are confident that our passengers from Romania will enjoy visiting the Adriatic Sea and the province of Bari, while Italian travelers can discover more of the Romanian regions by flying on one of our new Airbus A320 to enjoy great value vacations across the sea.”

Giuseppe Acierno, sole administrator of Aeroporti di Puglia SpA, said:”We welcome Wizz Air’s two new Romanian routes, with the Timisoara route poised to become very popular for business travellers and Romanian’s working in the Apulia region. With these 2 new routes, the actual number of routes operated by Wizzair at Bari airport increases to 5 and represents well the sucessful partnership between Aeroporti di Puglia and Wizz Air for which we just renewed the contract until March 2020. The new services contribute to the increase of the destination network to Eastern Europe, with Apulia as a natural gateway.”
