Effective 19 February 2016, Solomon Airlines will lease a Boeing aircraft from code-share partner Qantas Airways while its Airbus A320 undergoes maintenance in Singapore.

Qantas will operate a Boeing B737-800 aircraft on behalf of Solomon Airlines which will include its code-share route to and from Brisbane/Honiara in addition to its regular weekend Nadi flight.

The B737-800 will overnight in Fiji on Saturday and returns via Honiara to Brisbane each Sunday.

Solomon Airlines’ Airbus is expected to be out of service until the third week of April.

This has resulted in some schedule adjustments having to be made including the suspension of the Sydney and Port Vila services until 25 April 2016 when it is anticipated the Airbus will return to full service.

Solomon Airlines General Manager Operations & Commercial, Gus Kraus reiterated his thanks to Qantas:

“We thank Qantas for its ongoing support and assistance helping us to maintain the core of our Australian and Fiji schedule.”

Meanwhile, Solomon Airlines has applauded news a New Zealand company has been contracted to upgrade Vanuatu’s Bauer field International Airport with work to be completed in early April.

“We are delighted the authorities in Port Vila are taking the necessary steps to upgrade the runway conditions to ensure all airlines can resume operations as soon as possible for the benefit of the Vanuatu people and the country’s vital tourism industry,” Mr Kraus said.
