Spirit Airlines flight attendants ratify agreement

Spirit Airlines flight attendants have overwhelmingly voted to approve a new five-year collective bargaining agreement with the airline.

The agreement contains wage and retirement benefit increases as well as improvements to other benefits.

“We are delighted that our flight attendants have ratified the new agreement,” said Spirit CEO Robert Fornaro. “This contract provides our flight attendants the pay increases they deserve and provides our company with long-term stability and an ability to grow. The deal clearly demonstrates how much we value the contributions our great flight attendants make every day to our airline and our valued customers.”

Spirit and the Association of Flight Attendants, CWA (AFA), which represents more than 2,200 flight attendants at Spirit, reached a tentative agreement in March of this year. A record 84% of eligible Flight Attendants voted on the proposed contract, with 79% voting to approve the agreement.

The pay increases for the Flight Attendants will take effect immediately. Other provisions in the contract will begin over the next few months, after the agreement is signed.

“This successful vote shows that when both parties focus on the most important issues and the larger economic picture, we can get to a deal that works for everyone,” said John Bendoraitis, Spirit’s Chief Operating Officer. “I want to thank our great flight attendants, the AFA negotiating committee and the National Mediation Board for all their efforts and professionalism in getting us to this point.”
